Common Zoom Authentication Errors

Overview

The following are related to common errors you may see when logging into Zoom using Single Sign-On (SSO).

Issues & Troubleshoot

A specific meeting requires authentication

For security reasons, some hosts may require participants to authenticate into a meeting before they can join. This is to help prevent unauthorized access to meetings and to help deter Zoom bombing.

  • If a particular meeting is set up for authentication and you are not logged into Zoom at the time you try to join, you will see a message saying "This meeting is for authorized attendees only."
  • If you receive this message, click the "Sign In to Join" button and proceed with logging in using your SUNY Oswego email address and password.  You may have to go back to the meeting link to try joining again.

Not signing in with your SUNY Oswego email address

  • In some cases, users may be using their Laker NetID instead of their SUNY Oswego email address to log in.
  • If this happens, an error message will show saying the account does not exist.
  • To resolve this, enter your SUNY Oswego full email address at the sign-in prompt.

Going to zoom.us rather than oswego-edu.zoom.us

  • If you are still going to the zoom.us website to login, you may see an authentication error message.

  • If you continue trying to log in, Zoom locks your account after five failed login attempts.

  • To resolve this, go to SUNY Oswego's Zoom site at https://oswego-edu.zoom.us. This will redirect you back to SUNY Oswego's login servers where you can continue logging in with your SUNY Oswego email address and password.

Typing an incorrect domain name in the Zoom Client

  • For those that are logging in using the Zoom application installed on your PC or Mac, clicking the "Login with SSO" button presents you with a box to type in the domain.  If you incorrectly type in the domain name, you will receive a message saying "Something went wrong while you tried signing in with SSO."
