Body
Overview
These steps outline how to download Zoom recordings saved in the cloud to your local computer.
- You can do this anytime for any recordings you may have
- You may be asked to do this in order for the campus to free up limited recording space in Zoom. In this case, the campus will specify what time period recordings will be deleted.
Instructions
- Login to the web version of Zoom
- Click on the "Recordings" item in the left navigation
- You will be presented with your Zoom recordings listed. At the top of the page, there are search parameters available to narrow down the recordings to a specific timeframe. This might be useful in times when the campus communicates recordings from a certain time period will be purged.
- Click on the title of the recording. You will be taken to a new page where you have more details about that specific recording.
- You can preview the recording by clicking the play button.
- You can see the files that are available for download. The full recording will be listed as "Shared Screen with Speaker View" or "Shared Screen with Gallery View." Both of these are .mp4 files. You may also see individual files that saved individual aspects of the Zoom session such as just the shared content, just the audio, the audio transcript, the chat, etc. The following is an example showing three files.
- If you wish to download all the files available, click the "Download (x files)" where x represents the number of individual files available for this recording. In the above example, there are 3 files associated with this recording.
- If you wish to download only certain files, hover over the file and click the down arrow. Hovering over the "Shared screen with speaker view" file in the example above presents the download button. Click on it.
- The downloaded file(s) are stored in the "Downloads" folder on your local computer. You can verify the files are there and then move them to wherever you are storing your Zoom recordings.
- Once you have verified the recordings are locally stored on your computer, you can delete them from Zoom by clicking the trash can icon next to the "Copy shareable link" button. This will delete all the files associated with the recording and move them to the Trash. They will stay in the Trash for 30 days unless the campus has specified a timeframe in which the recordings will be deleted.
- Optional: Now that the recordings are stored on your local computer, you can upload them into Panopto or YouTube to be used in Blackboard or elsewhere.
