Overview
Brightspace's Quizzes tool is a powerful feature for creating, administering, and grading online tests, exams, and quizzes. It offers a variety of options for instructors to assess student learning in both formative (for practice and feedback) and summative (for grading) ways.
Instructions
- From Course Tools, click Quizzes.

- Click New Quiz.

- Complete
- Quiz Title - name of the quiz
- Grade Out Of
- Points will auto-fill based on the total question points. Point value can be edited after all questions are entered.
- Grade book options:
- Not in Grade Book - quiz is not linked to Grades
- Edit or Link to Existing - if quiz column is already in Grades
- Add to Grade Book - will create a new column in Grades
- Due Date - click the calendar to add due date
- Description - information about the quiz, optional

- Questions
- Add Existing
- Upload a File
- Browse Question Library
- Import from Learning Repository

- Create New
- New Question - question types: Multiple Choice, True or False, Fill in the Blanks, Multi-Select, Matching, Ordering, Written Response, Short Answer, Arithmetic, Significant Figures, Multi-Short Answer
- Section - heading
- Question Pool - randomly pool selected questions from the Question Library

- Availability Dates & Conditions, click the chevron to expand.
- Start Date / End Date - quiz is active during these dates.
- Release Conditions - advance function to restrict students access to the quiz until they complete a pre-condition.
- Special Access - reopen quiz for a student(s); for time accommodations use the Accommodation option on Roster.

- Timing & Display, click the chevron to expand.
- Set time limit
- click box to enter in minutes
- Paging
- All questions displayed together
- 1 question per page
- 5 questions per page
- 10 questions per page
- Add page break after each section
- Shuffle Quiz
- Click box to randomizes the question order
- Display
- Allow hints
- Hide question point value
- DO NOT use Disable Email, Instant Messages, and Alerts within Brightspace as this is a global setting that disables notices from other courses until the quiz is submitted.

- Attempts & Completion, click the chevron to expand.
- Attempts - Default is one
- Click Manage Attempts to update

- Evaluation & Feedback, click the chevron to expand.
- Auto-publish attempt results immediately upon completion - deselect for essay questions
- When published, display to learners:
- Attempt grade and No questions is the default - students see their grade only
- Customize Quiz Results Displays - allows you to set up additional displays - typically used to provide more feedback after the quiz closes.

- Click Save and Close
- Note: quiz must be set to visible for student access
