Overview
In order to use the SUNY Oswego Inclusive Access program, faculty have to install a link in their course for VitalSource. Please note that in order for this to work, you need to have picked your textbook for the program prior to the deadline imposed by SUNY.
Instructions
- In the Content section of your Brightspace course, go to the Add a module field and type "VitalSource Inclusive Access".

- Select the pulldown menu for Existing Activities, and select External Learning Tools.

- Select the VitalSource E-Textbook link from the Add Activity screen.

- The link is now installed in your course. If you are using courseware from a publisher, it must be installed in your Brightspace course along with the VitalSource link.
-
If you are using Pearson Courseware (MyLab, Revel, Mastering), please review this article about the Pearson courseware setup IA for more information. After creating the Pearson courseware link, you must click the Vitalsource link in order to activate the setup so students can start accessing it.
-
For all other publishers, please speak with your representative about installing their courseware products.
- The next step is to click the VitalSource E-Textbook link to activate student access.
- Optionally, you may add an access description for students so they understand the following:
-
What is Inclusive Access, and how will it be billed?
-
Link to Inclusive Access Support and/or information on how to opt out through the VitalSource link.
-
Who to contact if they get an error message or the link does not work.
- Your access to the VitalSource E-Textbook link is different from students, as you will be able to access the Instructor Portal tab, which will take you to your instructor resources, including Instructor Analytics and Bookshelf.
- Note: Students will see a link to read their e-textbook and an option to opt out, with a deadline. After the deadline passes, those who stayed opted in will be able to read the e-textbook, but no longer opt out. The e-textbook will not be available if they opt out.
