If there is NOBODY who can cover...
Instructions
It is very important to not miss any of your shifts and to get coverage if you really can't make it. However, once in a while, a lab assistant may miss a shift. Ideally, you can find coverage for the shift instead of closing the lab. Follow the steps below:
Do you really have to leave?
If you don't have anything terribly important to do, you might just stay in the lab. You're already there, so you might as well, and you'll get a bigger paycheck next time. Their loss, your gain.
If you have something important to do, like go to class or something like that, you'll have to find a replacement.
Who's supposed to be here?
Who is the CLA who normally covers the next shift? Check the schedule and call them (their number is on the main cla page). The next CLA may have forgotten about the shift, and your call will be the reminder. The CLA shows up five minutes later, and you can leave. The same thing goes if the CLA after you get a replacement, call the replacement. A replacement shift can be easy to forget.
Who else is out there?
If you have to leave and you can't find the CLA who is supposed to be there, please try to find someone! You've got quite a few resources for doing this.
The first thing to do is send out an email. Most CLAs read their mail a few times a day so, someone might see the message within the next 10 or 15 minutes.
If there is NOBODY who can cover...
In the worst of cases, where you HAVE to leave and really couldn't find anyone to cover, please make sure that all the paper trays are filled, and the lab is cleaned up. Also, try to get the next CLA to come in early.
