Brightspace Lumi Question: Generating quiz questions

Overview

You can use Lumi Question to assist in creating a new quiz questions within your Question Library. These questions can then be added to your course's quizzes. The generated questions idea need to be review for accuracy before saving. Learners will not know the assignment was generated using AI-assistance.

Note: Quiz questions can be generated from free-text or source topics added to the Content tool. The following content types are supported:

  • Pages
  • Most file topics excluding PDFs (.doc, .docx, .odt, .ppt, .pps, .pptx, .ppsx, .odp, .xls, .xlsx, .rtf, .txt)

Instructions

  1. In your course, click on Course Tools > Quizzes.

  2. Click the Question Library tab.

  3. On the Question Library page, click Generate Questions.

  4. In the Generate Questions dialog, select a Content Source. Based on the Content Source you choose, perform the following actions:
    • If you select Course Content:
      1. Click Select Content.
      2. In the Insert Quicklink dialog, click the Content topic you want to use to generate questions. Optionally, click edit the source text to edit the text for more precision on the question generation.

    • If you select Custom Text, enter text in the Source Text field.

  5. Select the Number of Questions you want to generate.
  6. Select the Question Type.
  7. Optionally, select a Bloom's Taxonomy level that aligns with your assessment goals. If you prefer not to use Bloom’s Taxonomy, leave the field set to Select Level.
  8. Click Generate.

  9. Click Pending Review for the first quiz question to open the Review Question dialog.
  10. After reviewing and editing a quiz question, select one of the following:
    • Click Keep and Next to keep the current quiz question and review the next question.
    • Click Discard and Next to delete the current quiz question and review the next question.
    • Click Close This Question to return to the generated list of questions.

  11. After reviewing the last quiz question, select one of the following:
    • Click Keep and Finish to keep the current quiz question and return to the generated list of questions.
    • Click Discard and Finish to delete the current quiz question and return to the generated list of questions.
    • Click Close This Question to return to the generated list of questions.
  12. In the Generated Questions dialog, click Save to Section. If you do not wish to use any of the questions, click Cancel and Discard.

  13. Select Create New Section for your quiz questions. This will allow you to easily find your generated questions.

  14. Click Save.

Syllabus statements/notifying students

Per SUNY's agreement with Desire2Learn, users will not represent that output content is human generated when it is not. If you choose to use Lumi, it is recommended to add a statement in your course syllabus such as: AI tools have been leveraged to organize or generate quiz questions, discussions, and/or assignments.
