Attendance: setting up Qwickly Attendance

Overview

Qwickly Attendance allows instructors and students to easily track course attendance. The tool allows for student self check-in through the use of a PIN. Emails can be automatically sent to absent students. Grades can be given for class attendance and linked to the grade book.

Instructions

  1. On the course navigation bar, use the Course Progress menu to select Qwickly Attendance.

  2. Note: the first time you use Qwickly Attendance you will be prompted to allow the connection.
  3. In the new Qwickly Attendance tab, click on the Begin Setup button.
  4. Complete the following options on the Preference tab.
    1. User Sorting - determine how you want your class list sorted.

    2. View Preferences
      1. View preferences for Attendance: option not typically selected.
      2. View preferences for Records: select the "Round grades to the nearest whole number".

      3. Check In - allows for students to record their attendance. Note: this option in typically used in large classes.
        1. Set the "Check in timer" for 3-5 minutes.
        2. Require PIN

  5. Complete the following options on the Attendance Statuses tab.
    1. System Statuses can be turned off using the toggle.

    2. Custom Course Statuses - for each new status Points % plus Absence % must equal 100%. Click the Add Status button to create additional custom statuses.

  6. Complete the following options on the Automatic Emails tab.
    1. Select the "Send email on absence" option.
    2. Customized the email, if desired.

  7. Complete the following options on the Grading tab.
    1. Select the "Session Based Grading Column".

    2. Select which option - Total Points or Points Per Session
      1. Total Points - students start with the total number of points as their Attendance grade. This grade remains persistent until an absence/tardy/etc. Then the grade is computed based on their total number of attendance sessions divided by the total possible number of attendance sessions. (Example: Attendance is worth 100 points. Student with 2 presents and 2 absences has a grade of 50.)
        1. Total Points: enter the appropriate value in the Attendance box.

      2. Points Per Session - this is the most commonly used option.

  8. Click the Save Settings button.

Note: You can update any of the settings after the start of the semester without causing damage to your attendance record or student grades.
