The Grade book is where you can see an overview of how every member of a class is doing, and provides the basis for how students see their grades, and how the final grades are calculated. This document will walk you through the initial setup of the Grade book using the Setup Wizard.

Gradebook columns not associated with a Brightspace assessment (assignment, discussion, quiz) can be deleted directly from Grades. Note: before deleting a column confirm that it does not contain grades. Deleting a column that contains grades will result in data loss that can not be recovered.

The purpose of this document is to explain how to submit a student’s in progress quiz attempt. A quiz can get stuck “In Progress” if a student closes their browser without submitting. If the quiz access closes or the quiz timer runs out, a student may not be able to get back in to submit their work. In such cases, it is usually easiest for the instructor to ‘force submit’ the quiz for the student.

A zero grade can be automatically entered in the gradebook for students who fail to submit an assignment or quiz by its due date. This feature requires a future due date. It is not retroactive. At the time of the due date, any missing submissions will receive a grade of zero. You still have the ability to manually override the zero should the work be submitted later.
Best practice is to turn the setting on at the start of the semester. Doing so will prevent students with missing work having
