All types of assessments (assignments, discussions, quizzes) need to be added to a Content module. Having the student access assessments from a Content module provides you with additional statistics concerning your students activity within your course.

Assignments can be easily edited. This allows you to initially create an assignment then update any missing/incorrect information. Note, certain settings cannot be changed after student submissions are received.
