How to Obtain a Wireless and Wired MAC Address in Mac OS X

This document contains instructions for how to find the wireless and wired Machine Address Code (MAC address) for the following operating systems:

• Mac OS X 10.6/10.7/10.8/10.9/10.10

Overall, the instructions are divided into sections for:

• Wireless MAC Address
• Wired MAC Address (Mac OS X 10.6)
• Wired MAC Address (Mac OS X 10.7/10.8/10.9)

Wireless MAC Address

1. Click on the Wifi symbol and select Open Network Preferences....

2. Select Wi-Fi (or Airport in Mac OS X 10.6) from the left panel. Then, click Advanced in the bottom right hand corner.
    

3. Select the Wi-Fi tab. The MAC address will be listed as the Wi-Fi Address.
    

Wired MAC Address

Mac OS X 10.6

1. Go to Apple Menu >> System Preferences.

2. Click Network at the top portion of the window.

3. Click Ethernet on the left. Click the Advanced button.

4. Click the Ethernet tab and the MAC address will be listed as 'Ethernet ID'.

Mac OS X 10.7/10.8/10.9 

1. Go to Apple Menu >> System Preferences.

2. Click Network at the top portion of the window.

3. Click Ethernet on the left. Then, click the Advanced button.

4. Click the Hardware tab and the MAC address will be the first piece of information listed.

 The MAC address will be in the following format: xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx.
