Microsoft Authenticator App Setup for Multifactor Authentication

Overview

This article is a step-by-step guide on how to set up the Microsoft Authenticator app on a phone/tablet

Instructions

1. On a laptop or desktop computer, go to the Microsoft Opt-In Login page to log in to your account. Make sure you are logging in from a laptop or desktop computer as you will need to scan a QR code on it from your smartphone.

2. After you log in, you will be prompted to set up your MFA options. Select "Setup Authenticator app".

3. You should see a message in the browser window that looks like this with a QR code.

4. Now go from your laptop/desktop and switch to your phone/tablet and download the free Microsoft Authenticator app. Open the app. Accept the privacy terms.

5. Select Add Account.

6. Select Work or School Account.

5. Select Scan a QR Code.

6. Scan the code on your computer screen with your phone/tablet. A message will appear a few seconds later saying the account setup is successful.
