CLAs: Toner/Paper Change

Overview

This article explains the instructions on how to change the toner and paper for the printer.

The Penfield Library Technology Support Professional (TSP) will handle toner changes. Currently, in the TSP office, Penfield 209.

Paper Instructions

The paper is stored in a series of cabinets in the Penfield lobby / common area. They're just outside the 24-hour computer lab in front of the men's room and to the side of the former CLA desk. The Penfield TSP will be doing their best to keep them topped up as well.

Toner Instructions

  • If the printer says "low toner," do not automatically replace it! Look at the handouts to see if they are still printing correctly.

  • If the printer is printing pages poorly, take out the toner, shake it, and then put it back. If this does not fix the problem, you should replace the toner.

Black Toner Installation

  • Grab a new box from the filing cabinet. Take out the new toner and put the old one in the box.

  • Remove any tape from the new toner by breaking a piece off and sliding the tape out. Insert the new toner in the printer and close the lid. The printer will begin printing again shortly.

  • Mark the box as "USED" and leave it with the other toners.
  • ***Take the paperwork out of the box and remove the return slip from it. Stick the return slip to the side of the box.

Color Printer

  • Do not change the toner in the color printer until the printer states it is out and will not print.

  • The steps are otherwise the same for color toner.
