Overview
This article outlines instructions on how to properly sanitize and disinfect desktops, computers, and multifunction devices (all-in-one copiers, printers, faxes) in your departmental offices that are shared by multiple people.
General Guidelines
- Make sure you wash your hands or sanitize before and after touching a device.
- Computer and copier equipment should be disinfected with 70% isopropyl alcohol only. Other chemicals may damage the equipment.
- Keep the container tightly closed and avoid breathing vapor.
- If come in contact with your eyes, rinse them with water immediately.
Cleaning Guidelines
Please use the following procedures to clean external surfaces on electronic devices with the alcohol solution advised by the CDC:
- Turn off the device. Never clean a product while it is powered on or plugged in.
- Use a 70% isopropyl alcohol and 30% water mixture to wet a microfiber cloth. Use of fibrous materials, like toilet paper or paper towels, is not advised. The fabric should be slightly damp, but not wet.
- Wipe the surfaces that need cleaning gently with a damp cloth. It's important to keep moisture out of places like keyboards, display panels, and USB ports on printer control panels to prevent damage.
- After cleaning, make sure the surfaces are completely dry before turning on the device.
