How to Install and Use the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client on a Computer

Overview

The Cisco AnyConnect client is an application that allows you to connect to the SUNY Oswego campus network from an off-campus location.  You can run applications or access various services that require you to be on campus from anywhere in the world.

This article outlines how to successfully install the AnyConnect VPN client on a computer.

Important Notes

  • To ensure proper installation of the AnyConnect client, please uninstall any earlier Cisco VPN clients, restart your computer and then install the new client.
  • Check with your departmental technical support staff for assistance with setting up your computer so that it is configured correctly for remote access.

Connection steps

1) Go to the licensed software downloads page and click on the "Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client."  This will take you to the information about the client.  Log in with your Laker NetID and password using the link in the "Installation or Upgrade Process."

  • Alternative if you are getting an error accessing the link above.  
    • go to https://vpn.oswego.edu/facstaff/
    • Click Continue
    • Click Start AnyConnect
    • Click Download for Mac or PC depending on your computer's manufacturer
    • Continue to Step 3

2) Once logged in, download the "Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client" to your machine.
3) Launch the installer file and follow the prompts to complete the installation of the VPN Client.

4) After the install is complete, run the program Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client which is now locally installed on your computer.

5) When the application loads, enter vpn.oswego.edu/facstaff in the empty field on the Cisco AnyConnect window and click Connect.

6) Sign in using your Laker NetID and password.

7) Accept the Acceptable Use of Data and Information Systems pop up and you should be all set! At this point, you should be able to access the SUNY Oswego campus network!

8) Launch the software or website needed to continue your work.

 

Disconnection steps

  1. Click on the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client icon.
  2. Click Disconnect.
