Overview
This article reviews the video storage retention guidelines used with campus video recording solutions, Zoom and Panopto.
Instructions
Zoom
CTS will remove videos older than approximately 18 months once a year (currently the annual date is September 19th).
If you would like to keep your Zoom videos, you can store them locally on your computer or upload them to a YouTube channel in LakerApps. Please do not store videos in Brightspace or Google Drive due to performance degradation and storage limits on each platform.
Panopto
This policy will also be run annually on September 19th. Panopto utilizes an active and inactive storage model. Active storage is for videos that have been created or viewed in the last two years. Inactive storage is for videos that have not been viewed in the last two years. Inactive videos are still accessible but may take longer to load than active videos. The retention policy is as follows:
- Videos created or viewed in the past two years will remain in active storage
- Videos not viewed in the past two years will be moved to inactive storage
- Videos not viewed in the past three years will be removed from Panopto
These actions will take place near the beginning of each fall and spring semester and communicated through a campus communication medium such as Oswego Today.
Anyone that has Panopto videos they wish to keep can download them to their computer or upload them to a YouTube channel in LakerApps. Please do not store videos in Brightspace or Google Drive due to performance degradation and storage limits on each platform.
