How to Setup Google MFA (2-Step Verification) - Backup Codes Option

This document walks you through getting Google MFA one-time use Backup Codes used in place of other MFA methods. These codes should only be used if you have trouble using other verification methods.

This article assumes you have Google MFA already set up; if you still need to set up Google MFA, please refer to Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

This document walks you through getting Google MFA one-time use Backup Codes used in place of other MFA methods. These codes should only be used if you have trouble using other verification methods.

1. Sign in to your Oswego email account.

2. Once signed in, on the top right side of the page, click on your profile picture.

3. Click "Manage your Google Account."

4. Next click on "Security" on the left navigation

5. Under the "How you sign in to Google" click "Backup Codes"

6. Click "+ Get backup codes"

7. You will now have 10 Backup Codes where you can "Print codes" or "Download codes" to use at a later time.
8. To see how many Backup codes you have remaining, follow steps 2 and 3 and next to "Backup codes" you will see "codes available " with a number remaining. 

*Note* If you run out of the one-time use codes, follow these steps again to generate new ones.
